About us

A Church With A Purpose

  • God wants us to "Reach Up" in Worship to Him.

  • God wants us to "Reach Out" in bringing others to Him

  • God wants us to "Reach In" as we grow in His Word.

We believe that the God we serve is worthy of all praise and adoration.

We believe that Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and was raised from the dead in order to give us eternal life

We believe that Jesus should be central to everything we do.

As a Church, our focus should always be on Him. Worship is our chance to connect with Him in praise and we love to lift Him up. That's why worship is so vital to our growth in the Christian life. It really should be the very breath we ever breathe...to give Him the honor and glory that only He deserves.

  • We teach to extend Grace

  • We worship hard and pray harder

  • We are a church without walls

  • It is our mission to reach the lost and broken

  • We love God's Word and want our lives to line up with His

100+ Years of God’s Faithfulness

Our church started from a Sunday school class led by Emma Nations. It quickly blossomed into a faith movement that created Second Baptist Church in 1924. We’ve seen God move in incredible ways and interviewed some of our newest members, as well as those who have been involved for many years.

Our Ministries

Our Ministries

Easter sunday

We are a multi-generational church that strives to love like Jesus.

People who attend our church come from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.  Some come from churches of different types such as Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, etc.  Others come with no church or religious background at all.  Suddenly, they find themselves at a Baptist church.  What does that mean?  Many have understood the Baptist church by its common stereotypes, but we can assure you that the Second family is not your conventional church.   We are unique.  We believe church should be fun and exciting, yet without compromising the truth of God's Word, the Bible.

Children Ministry

Each Sunday during our 10:45 service, and Wednesday nights at 6:30, your children can enjoy a Biblical lesson and plenty of fun, alongside others their age in our wonderful Kids’ space. Grades K-5th.

Our nursery is right down the hall from the children's check-in.  Ms. Rosie is always smiling and ready to greet your little ones.

Youth Ministry

Our goal is to connect students to Jesus and to each other.

Each week we gather together in a fun and engaging environment, meant to show 6th-12th grade students who Jesus is. We meet each Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 pm.

Young at Heart

Young at Heart (YAH) provides opportunities throughout the year for older adults (55 and older) to gather and fellowship once a month.

  • Our Building and Grounds Ministry takes care of general maintenance around the church.  They work hard in making sure that any required maintenance of the church has been taken care of.

  • Our Love and Cheer ministry does an excellent job on reaching out to those that are homebound or in the nursing home.  They visit with them throughout the year and take them little goodies at holidays.

  • The Christmas Giving Tree gathers names of those from the Thanksgiving Dinner that may not have Christmas.  After the names are collected along with their information, they are placed on a Christmas tree in the sanctuary for those that would like to take a tag and pick up a gift.

  • Vacation Bible School is held the first week of June.  This is a fun week where we have lessons, games, crafts, and an imagination station.  Jeff and Lana Bowman do an excellent job heading this up.

  • The Hygiene Ministry helps children in school with personal care items and a few clothing items if the demand is great.

Our Staff

  • Mike Peterson

    Pastor

"I can't imagine serving anywhere else."

I love being the pastor of Second Baptist Church because I know first of all that this is where God wants me. Over these years God has given me such good friends that I feel like I've been here all of my life. I enjoy worshiping with my church family every week. I can't imagine being anywhere else. One of my favorite verses is Luke 1:37 which says, "For nothing is impossible with God". That's such a limitless promise that it trumps whatever is going on in my life. And I like that.

  • Cordell Kingsley

    Youth & Worship Pastor

“I believe God is using our Church to change our community.”

My heart is to serve the church. I love getting to worship and serve with the people and youth of this community. I believe we will see a new generation of Jesus followers, that will change our world.

  • Annita Ratcliff

"I want to serve others to the best of my ability"

Annita has been the church secretary for 7 years now. She has a heart for other people and enjoys helping those that she can. She is always ready and willing to help where needed. She has been very active in her home church as Sunday School teacher, taking youth on trips, planning women's luncheons, heading up VBS and singing in the choir. Outside of church, Annita enjoys spending time with family and doing crafts.
